Most common game rules coaches do not seem to understand:
by Barry Sullivan
1. The batter-runner turning inside the line after passing first base does not necessarily put the batter-runner in jeopardy. To be in jeopardy, the batter-runner would have to do something to make the umpire think that she was going to 2nd base.
2. The look back rule.
3. Infield Fly Rule in 12U and above.
4. Umpires will announce when the game clock starts. Listen for it and ask if you don’t hear it before the game actually gets underway.
5. If you treat the umpire with dignity and respect, he/she will treat you with dignity and respect. If you verbally abuse him the whole game, expect at some point he/she is going to get a bellyful and come back at you.
